Highline
Overview
The Highline is a High-Performance Shortboard (HPSB) developed with extensive feedback from top riders like John John Florence, Nathan Florence, Tyler Wright, Nic Von Rupp, and our junior team. It has proven its performance in contests, with Tyler Wright achieving podium finishes at the 2022 and 2023 WSL Bells Beach contests on her 5'8" Highline. Designed to excel in average-to-good waves, this model is based on our popular and versatile "74" model, which won Dane Reynolds' 2016 Stab in the Dark.
While retaining the original rocker, the Highline features updated foil and outline to align with modern HPSB standards. The bottom contour includes a medium/high nose rocker and a medium tail rocker, providing extra drive in sluggish conditions. It incorporates a single concave throughout the bottom, blending into a double concave between the fins. This combination of contours and curves generates lift for quick acceleration, maintains speed and drive, and facilitates easy rail-to-rail transitions.
The wide point of the outline is positioned just behind the center, with a pronounced hip that enhances drive and creates a pivot point for snappy, vertical surfing. Similar to the "74" model, the deck is slightly flatter than other Pyzel boards, pushing more volume towards the rail. The rail itself is refined, not boxy, ensuring sensitivity and ease of engagement through turns.
Compared to the Radius model, which is designed for punchier waves with more curve in the face and features more overall rocker, the Highline has a slightly flatter nose and tail rocker. This design allows it to maintain more speed in weaker waves and carry momentum through flatter sections more easily, while still offering sufficient rocker for vertical surfing. Additionally, the Highline's stock sizing includes slightly more width and volume per size (typically ½ to 1 liter more volume), which provides increased float and carry in smaller waves. In essence, the Highline is an excellent high-performance board for good to below-average wave conditions.
