Roberts Surfboards
FLYING HIPPIE
Overview
The Flying Hippie is the next performance evolution of our retro-inspired models. For a change of pace from the shortboard grind, our team has been pushing the limits of our Bro Fish and Disco models from knee-high slop to overhead barrels. As one of our test pilots has gotten older, Kellen Ellison's shortboard days are more spread out, but his addiction to putting a board on rail or above the lip hasn't gone away. Designed with the Roberts signature blend of fun, performance, and versatility, the Flying Hippie pushes the retro vibe as close to modern performance as possible.
Built to easily generate speed, it has a parallel shape and a single-to-double concave bottom like the previous models. Volume has been maintained under your chest for paddling, while areas like the nose and tail have been thinned out to add responsiveness. The nose has been pulled in, and its rocker lifted slightly to surf tighter in the pocket and handle steeper waves and sections.
Category: ALL-AROUND ALTS.
Rocker: Low entry to flat throughout for easy wave catching and speed
Rails: Medium slight down rail with hard tucked edges for sensitivity and hold
Bottom: Single to Deep Double to Vee to create lift for speed while adding control
Fins: Standard as 5 fin to ride as twin, thruster or quad, can also be ordered with Twonzer placement
Sizing:
Compared to your good wave board go 2 - 4 inches shorter than your height for everyday surfing matching your volume at about 1.0 L more. At or over your height for a more cruisy feel with even easier wave catching and more glide. Comparing to pro model shortboards, ride it 5-7 inches shorter, 1" wider and slightly thicker (about 1.0 L extra volume). Custom dims are always available to match your needs or preferences.
